Hi,

I was wondering how I can (copy and) paste text into the search field of Excel for Mac 2011?
When I select (click into) the search field, or select (double-click) the current search string (so that the current search string is highlighted in blue), I would expect that then a 'paste' would insert text into search field.

Instead, however, Excel inserts the text into the last selected (last active) cell of the Excel sheet itself when I do a 'paste'...

Find TextEdit in the Applications folder on your Mac computer. By default, it creates formatted documents saved in rich text format, but you can use it to create a plain text file on a Mac. This annoys me because, as it seems obvious, I do not wish to insert the text, I wish to search for the text! My use scenario is that I often need to look up (rather long) ID numbers in Excel sheet. Theses IDs come from other Excel sheets, PDFs or the web. Instead of copy-and-pasting the IDs into the Excel search, I need to manually type them into the search... :(

That cannot be the best solution - any ideas how to resolve?

p.s. this used to be a problem in Word for Mac 2011 as well (Word would insert copy-and-pasted text into the actual document instead of into the search field when the search field is selected), but this has recently been resolved (I think with one of the recent update).

Step A:

Example: I have selected the string 'old_search' in the search field per double-click... if start typing now, I will type over the 'old_search' string and replace it. However, if I paste (CMD+V) a string currently in memory ('new_search') it will insert it, which is rather inconsistent, into the actual sheet, not the search field.
